Next, you can take off the input shaft if it's a manual transmission or the output shaft if it's automatic. To replace the seal or gasket, you will need to use a sealant or gasket maker. Finally, Torque all parts back together and replace any missing bolts or screws.

If you find that your transmission output bearing is not moving freely, it may be time to replace the bearing. There are several basic steps you need to take in order to repair your transmission yourself:

1. Remove the cover and locate the output shaft. The bearing should be located just below the input shaft.

2. Remove the sealant from around the bearing and carefully remove it with a wrench or a pair of pliers. Use caution not to damage the sealing surface on the side facing away from the engine.

3. Clean up any debris that remains on the bearing and install a new sealant if needed. Position the new Bearing on the Output Shaft and press down evenly until it is seated against the sealant around it. Torque to specification (usually 10-20 ft/lbs).

4. Replace the cover, and torque bolts to spec, and replace the fluid filter.
